Owney has spent the last couple of weeks in Branson, Missouri at Branson Elementary West. We are the host school for the Missouri Owney Project, and we are very excited to send him on his journey around the state. Be sure to check back soon to learn about Owney's visit to our school and to find out where he will visit next.
While you are waiting for Owney's journey to begin, check out these two videos to learn more about him and what he might have seen on his visits in the 1890s. (You do need to have You Tube unblocked to view the videos.)
This video was created by the Smithsonian Postal Museum and gives an overview of Owney's life.
This video was created by Mona Kerby, the author of the book, and shows what Owney might have seen during his travels.
WOW! It sounds like Owney had a lot fun at Osage Beach! It sounds like it was really fun! I'm a little jealous of Owney because he got to do all of this fun stuff, while us kids at Branson were inside learning ( but I think learning is more fun)!

Hello from Daniel Boone Elementary in Warrenton Missouri. We are excitedly awaiting the arrival of Owney to our school at the end of January. Our school is home to 450 Kindergarteners and 1st Graders. Our students have been hearing Owney's story in our Library Media Center and planning his adventures here at Daniel Boone and in our town. Everyone wants to be Owney's special friend and show him around. We all love Owney's story and can hardly wait to be a part of this project. We'll keep everyone posted about Owney's adventures here in Warrenton, so keep checking the blog! Becky Cohoon, Daniel Boone Elementary Library Media Specialist.
