Owney just completed his visit at Osage Beach, Missouri, and Mrs. Williams’s fourth grade classroom. He has learned a lot of things about our area. Osage Beach, Missouri, is a popular vacation destination for many people. During the summer, we have many visitors, much like Owney, he enjoy fishing, boating, swimming, golfing, and shopping. During the fall months, there are not as many people here, but it is still a very beautiful place to life. Owney was very busy while in Osage Beach. He has been to Willmore Lodge where he learned about the history of the lake area including the building of Bagnell Dam and the creation of the Lake of the Ozarks. While he was at Willmore Lodge, he was able to see the state’s largest paddlefish ever caught at the lake and a few of the 29 rooms that make up this historic building. It was originally built in Oregon, then taken apart, shipped to our area, and served as living quarters for some of the people who helped build Bagnell Dam.
Owney was also able go to Tan-Tar-a Resort. Many people stay at the resort each year while vacationing in our area. Owney visited Ha Ha Tonka State Park where there are remains of a castle. A fire destroyed the castle in the early 1900s. For fun, Owney played at Miner Mike’s and went swimming at Timber Falls Indoor Water Park. It was way too cold to swim at Big Surf in November or jet ski on the lake.
Owney enjoyed his time learning about fourth grade at School of the Osage too. We treated him nicely and even game him a mustache although he wore it for only one minute. Owney learned how to be safe, respectful, and responsible. Owney had to visit the nurse to get a band aid for his boo boo, and he almost got into trouble when he visited our principal’s office. Owney has learned about math, science, and language arts, and how to be an Osage Indian. Owney has been a really good guest.
We hope Owney likes his next destination as much as he liked Osage Beach.
