Owney at Osage UE

Osage Upper Elementary-Mrs. McClaughry’s 4th Grade

What a terrific project! Learning about Owney, meeting Owney, taking him around our school and community was the best! Owney, as you can see is very photogenic! He learned with us in the classroom and he traveled with us to see many sights- including a class fieldtrip to Wilmore Lodge! Our community, Lake of the Ozarks has many great places to visit. We did wish it would have been a bit warmer out so we could have let him actually enjoy boating, jet skiing, or just swimming in the Lake! The waterpark, Big Surf was closed for the season but we did tell Owney all about one of our favorite spots in the summertime!

Owney did get to travel to see other places we enjoy like; Miner Mike’s it’s a great place to spend a cold winter day-lots of games and fun to be had there! On our way to Wilmore Lodge he was able to visit “The Strip” where the first tourists enjoyed their trips to the Lake-he saw the HUGE Indian there! And of course traveling from The Strip to Wilmore Lodge we got to cross the Bagnell Dam! He loved see the Lake on one side and the Osage River on the other! We took him on our tour so he too could learn about how the Dam was built and the Lake was created. We treated him to a favorite, Randy’s Custard one day-did you know dogs love frozen custard! One day after dark he enjoyed the holiday lights at Osage Beach City Park-so sparkly and bright! He could get a lot of different views of the Lake from places to stay like The Lodge of Four Seasons and Tan-Tara-A. He did like his pedicure at Spa Shiki and loved the indoor water park Timber Falls at Tan-Tar-A too! A room parent let him down on the docks at GlenCove Marina to see the wonderful boats and wave runners they have there.

We had a great time showing Owney around our school, Osage Upper Elementary. He visited our mascot, the Osage Indian, had lunch in the cafeteria, shot some hoops in the gym, did a photo shoot near our Christmas tree, and of course, he LOVED our library as much as we do! It was a wonderful time with Owney. We hope he continues to enjoy his travels as much as we did his visit.

“Our class was excited when we got Owney. The very first thing we did was pass him around then we got to read his experience about being a mail pouch pooch it is a wonderful story about Owney. Next, we all got to make an Owney tag that was pretty cool. Coolest thing Owney got to do was go to Wilmore Lodge. He got to see the Lake from the deck. He got to learn all about the history of the Bagnell Dam and Wilmore Lodge. He got to eat lunch and see the school’s Christmas tree and our gym. Owney has made new friends at Osage.”
